Patio Extension with County Materials Allure Pavers and Keystone Retaining Wall

A lot of backyards have the bones for a great outdoor space - they just need the right hardscape to tie it all together. That's exactly what this one needed. The existing concrete pad was fine on its own, but it wasn't giving this homeowner enough room to actually use the space the way they wanted.

We extended the patio using County Materials Allure pavers, which are a great choice if you want something that looks sharp and holds up long-term. The field pavers are laid in a classic running bond pattern with a contrasting dark border that frames the whole surface cleanly. It's a small detail that makes a big visual difference.

Along the fence line, we tied in a Keystone Compac 3 retaining wall to keep everything locked in and level. That's not just a cosmetic addition - it's doing real structural work, holding the edge of the patio against the grade and keeping soil from creeping in over time. Built right, this thing isn't going anywhere.

The plate compactor you see on site is part of what makes the whole thing solid. We run it over the finished surface with a rubber pad to seat the pavers tight and lock in the polymeric sand. Skip that step and you end up with shifting, uneven pavers down the road. We don't skip it.
